Celebrating Dickson Shops’ 60th Birthday in 2025

Dickson Shops’ 60th celebrations with Uncle Wally Bell, Kurrajong MLAs, and special guest Bill Shorten, were hosted by DRG on Saturday 18 October, with Professor Peter Stanley as Master of Ceremonies. Several hundred people joined us to mark the occasion, beginning with Welcome to Country by Uncle Wally.
Event featured a big local history exhibition by DRG’s Jane Goffman together with live music (Daisy Chain & Emilia Grace), Jazida’s Fabulous Fan dancers, free face painting sponsored by McDonald’s, free gelato sponsored by Cincotta Chemist, community markets, sixties fashion, and community group stalls.
Dickson’s first entry to the song contest (by Paul Marsh and Jo Evans) can be heard here.
DRG’s President Gene McGlynn honoured Dickson’s shopkeepers, giving special mention to Local Hero Carolyn Nuttall. Carolyn, Dickson’s newsagent and former pharmacist, has worked tirelessly at Dickson Shops for 45 years.
Prizes were generously donated by Sportscare & Physio, Centrepiece, Capital Chemist, My Rainbow Dreams, Dan Murphy’s, The Source and Flowers from the Garden. This community event was made possible with support from North Canberra Community Council, Woolworths, ACT Government and City Renewal Authority, Dickson Village, Officeworks, and private donors.
